Group Classes

The Arts School offers group classes for students in art, drama, piano, dance, and strings.

Art Adventures
Instructor:  Megan Aguilar
 

Join us for Art Adventures, a hands-on art class where we explore famous artists and unique art styles from around the world, past and present! Lower school students will get creative and try new techniques, gaining inspiration from a variety of cultures and art movements. Each session brings something new, giving students a fun and interactive way to develop their skills and express themselves artistically.

Grades: 2-3

Ballroom Dancing
Instructor:  Gilda Todd 
 
Students will learn the fundamentals of ballroom dances such as Foxtrot, Tango, Salsa, Swing and many more. The students will learn to develop teamwork, build social skills, and have fun in the process with the goals of developing confidence and promoting a healthy lifestyle through dance. The ballroom dance program offers many performance opportunities throughout the year, including an end-of-year showcase to students in Middle and Upper School.

Fundamentals of Jazz Dance
Instructor:  Carolyn S. Lang
 

Learn the fundamentals of jazz dance style and technique, while also learning fun choreography and dance combos! All ability levels are welcome, but steps will be broken down to the basics to build proper form in skill and flexibility.  Performance opportunities available at POPCS games/events and end-of-year Spring Show-offs. Purchase of a performance uniform required, if choosing to participate in school performances/events.

Tuition - $360 + $65 for performance uniform
 
Tuition includes 15 classes.
 

All students will need to purchase and wear black slip-on or “no lace” jazz shoes for class, have their hair pulled back in a hair tie, and wear clothes they can stretch and move in.

 

POP Players - Children's Theater
Instructor: Jami Calatozzo
 
Is your child overly dramatic or a shower singer? Then POP PLAYERS is the class for them! POP Players Children's Theater focuses on building confidence through singing, dancing, and acting. Our classes culminate in a musical theater production. Come join our creative adventure this semester!
 

Brush off your top hats and dancing shoes because we are Broadway Bound!

Join us for a spring semester of your favorite Broadway scenes and songs from shows like “Wicked”, “Annie”, “Guys and Dolls” and more.  

At the end of the semester, the curtain will rise on a NEW single performance showcasing both classes.  Sign your child up to become a Broadway Star today!

Group Piano Class
Instructor: Dr. Elise Choi
 
The group piano class offers a traditional piano lesson in a group format.  Students are placed according to their ability in a class of 3-5 students, each using their own digital piano. The focus of the class is on enjoying music and learning the basics -- notes, rests, tempos, and dynamics.
 
Grades - 2-5  (Independent readers only)

Tuition - $320 + additional fees*
 
Tuition includes 16 classes. 
*Additional fees may apply for practice journal, headphones, and music.

 

Suzuki Group/Theory Class - Violin and Viola
Instructor - Aubrey Turner
 

Suzuki group classes reinforce concepts and repertoire introduced in private lessons. Depending upon the level of the group, it may include such things as pre-Twinkle songs, instrumental position games, review of Suzuki repertoire in an ensemble setting, note-reading on the student's instrument, or playing Suzuki and supplemental repertoire in multiple parts.

Suzuki group classes are only offered to students enrolled in Suzuki private instruction. All Suzuki students must enroll in group class for the duration of the school year. Please consult with your private teacher regarding placement.

30-minute classes - $10 per class
45-minute classes - $15 per class
60-minute classes - $20 per class
75-minute classes - $25 per class

 

Music Makers with Beginner Ukulele
Instructor: Kaitlin Bauer
 

Jump into music adventures with games, instrument making, musical scavenger hunts, musician of the month surprises, instrument exploration and introduction to the Ukulele.  Music Makers combines active music fun with lots of creativity!  Ideal for any student who loves music and all abilities welcome!  Beginning Ukulele includes strumming techniques, learning 4 chords and playing favorite childhood songs.

 
Grades: 1-4
Thursdays, 3:15-4:15 p.m. for eight weeks
Class dates: January 23, 30; February 6, 13, 20, 27; March 6 and 13
Location - Art Room
Tuition - $200 + $60 for a new ukulele and case, if needed
 

 

Makerspace
Instructor: Kaitlin Bauer
 
A makerspace is a collaborative work environment which provides space, tools, and expertise for crafters. This class offers an open studio time where students can work on their own projects, incorporate new skills, and receive project direction.
 
Grades: 6-12

Makerspace IV
Class dates: March 25; April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; May 6, 13

Tuition includes 8 classes and supplies.
 
*Additional sessions will be offered throughout the school year.
Group classes for woodwinds, brass, and percussion will be scheduled based on interest.

Summer camps and classes are available.  Schedules are determined by individual instructors.

Enrollment

Enrollment for the fall semester is now open.  All new and returning students must complete the online enrollment form. The Arts School accepts new enrollments year round.
 
A non-refundable registration fee of $50 will be due at the beginning of the semester. Please see enrollment form regarding payment options.
 
Please note that The Arts School instructors will not collect enrollments or payments of any kind. 
 

Payment Policy

Group classes at The Arts School follow a predetermined schedule. Because of the nature of the group class setting, The Arts School will not be able to reimburse for missed classes, and make-up classes will not be available. In the event that the instructor of the class is not available or the class is canceled due to inclement weather, the class will be made up.
 

The Arts School Year

The school year at The Arts School is divided into two main sessions, fall and spring. The Arts School also offers lessons in an abbreviated summer session. The 2024-25 school year begins on August 14, 2024 and runs through May 22, 2025, with the week of May 19 - 22 as a makeup week only . Summer lessons will be offered from May 27 - August 9, 2025.
 

CLASS TERMINATION

Group class enrollment is for the 2024-2025 school year. If a student wishes to discontinue his/her group class prior to May 16, 2025, notice must be given 30 days in advance using the class cancellation form. The student will be financially responsible for the classes that occur within the 30 days from the date that the notice is given, whether or not the student chooses to attend the classes. The registration fee is nonrefundable.
 

Inclement Weather and School Closings

The Arts School follows the inclement weather policy of Prince of Peace Christian School. Please listen to local radio and TV broadcasts for up-to-date information concerning school closings. School closings will be posted on the POPCS school homepage.  If the campus remains open and available on a day when lessons have been cancelled, special arrangements may be made on an individual basis between the student and the instructor to rescheduled. When inclement weather does develop, The Arts School reserves the right to cancel lessons for the day.
