Matching gifts are a great way to increase the impact of your donation. Many companies match gifts from employees to qualified non-profits. Some even match gifts from retirees or spouses, while others give gifts for volunteer hours performed.

To initiate a matching gift, complete your employer's matching gift form and send it along with your gift. For specific information about your employer's matching program, contact your human resources department.

DAF is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support your favorite causes. DAF Direct enables you to recommend grants to POPCS directly from your DAF (as long as your DAF's sponsoring organization is participating).

Planned giving is a method of giving that allows a donor to make a major gift in their lifetime or upon death as part of the donor's overall financial and/or estate planning. Donors who make planned gifts and communicate such gifts to POPCS become members of the Legacy Society.

There are several ways to make planned gifts, including:

Specific Bequest:  A specific bequest involves making a gift of a specific asset such as real estate, a car, other property, or a gift for a specific dollar amount. For example, you may wish to leave your home or a stated dollar amount to POPCS.

Percentage Bequest:  Another kind of specific bequest involves leaving a specific percentage of your overall estate to charity. For example, you may wish to leave 5% of your estate to POPCS.

Residual Bequest:  A residual bequest is made from the balance of an estate after the will or trust has given away each of the specific bequests. A common residual bequest involves leaving a percentage of the residue of the estate to charity. For example, you may wish to leave 10% of the residual of your estate to POPCS.

Contingent Bequest:  A contingent bequest is made to charity only if the purpose of the primary bequest cannot be met. For example, you could leave specific property, such as a vacation home, to a relative, but the bequest language could provide that if the relative is not living at the time of your death, the vacation home will go to POPCS.

Gifts of appreciated securities provide significant tax savings for the donor with regard to capital-gains taxes

Gifts of real estate can include a residence, a vacation home, a farm or ranch, income-producing rental property, or undeveloped land. Depending on the value of the real estate, the donor may be able to avoid capital gains taxes and realize a charitable tax deduction.

Gifts made in honor of a particular faculty member, classmate, or person who has played a special role in the donor's life.

Gifts made by surviving spouses, relatives, friends, associates, or classmates of deceased members of the POPCS community to honor the memory of an individual.
