Variable Tuition

Variable Tuition is available to families with students in Kindergarten - Grade 12.  Variable Tuition is not available for children enrolling in our Early Learning Center (ELC) or Preschool programs. However, if a family is applying for Variable Tuition for a child in K-12 and has a child in POPCS ELC or Preschool, tuition for all children will be considered in the family’s financial profile.

The availability of Variable Tuition may vary by grade level, space available in a grade, number of applicants, and budgeted funds.

A family application must be submitted and verified through FACTS Grant & Aid. A $40 non-refundable fee will be charged by FACTS upon submission of the application. Applications will require copies of 2024 Tax Returns and 2025 W-2s for all applicants.

Students must complete the admission process and be accepted to POPCS in order to receive a Variable Tuition award.

The Variable Tuition application and supporting documents are submitted directly to FACTS Grant & Aid by the applicant. FACTS evaluates the application based on the criteria set by POPCS and makes a recommendation to the school’s Variable Tuition committee. Many factors are evaluated, including assets and debts, unusual expenses, the number of students attending tuition-paying schools, and the family's size. Families are notified of the tuition level for which they qualify by the POPCS finance office.

The formula used to calculate variable tuition considers many factors.  It is impossible to estimate the tuition level for which a family qualifies without completing a Variable Tuition application.

FACTS determines a family’s ability to pay tuition based upon on an “Estimated Family Contribution” (EFC) calculation that takes into account many of the factors that make up a family’s overall financial picture, including but not limited to:  income, assets, household size, unusual expenses, and family size. 

No. Every family is required to make a financial investment in their child’s education and will be required to pay a minimum tuition amount.

Application fees, facility fees, registration fees, supply fees, and dining fees are required.  Additional fees for Eagle Success Center programs, athletics, fine arts or other extracurricular activities may apply.  Please see Tuition & Fees for more information.

We will work with our available resources to make POPCS accessible to as many students and families as possible. Variable Tuition funds are limited.  The first round of Variable Tuition rates are awarded in February.  Applications received after the first round will be accepted on a rolling basis.  Variable Tuition rates will be awarded until funds are depleted.

In a split-family situation, all custodial parents are required to submit an application through FACTS. The Variable Tuition rate will be awarded to the student, as determined by a complete financial review of both parents.  A signed Tuition Agreement will be required for all custodial parents.

Yes. Re-enrolling POPCS families who apply for Variable Tuition by January 31 will receive priority consideration.

Yes. A new application must be submitted every year, according to published deadlines.  If a family's financial situation changes significantly, Variable Tuition rates will be adjusted based on the current demonstrated need.

The Texas Education Freedom Account program (TEFA) is a program administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts that provides state funds directly to families to use for eligible educational expenses, including private school tuition and fees. TEFA funds may reduce or replace any need-based financial aid traditionally offered by the school itself.  POPCS will require families to apply for and use TEFA funds before granting a variable tuition award.
