Teacher Aide

Job Summary:

The Teacher Aide will assist the teacher in the overall classroom instruction and       help provide a loving, Christian environment for children in accordance to the Board approved curriculum guides, as to fulfill the Mission  Statement of Prince of Peace Christian School, "Providing a Christ-Centered Exemplary Education for Each Child", this Job Description, and any other duties as assigned by the Administration.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Carry out all specific duties as assigned by the classroom teacher.  Be flexible to changing duties and needs.  Duties include but are not limited to:  assistance with all class projects during classroom time, supervision of students at recess and PE, preparation of snacks, assistance for children at lunch, preparation for classroom activities (copying, gathering supplies, etc.)
  • Show competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with others.
  • Relate with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience to children, staff, and parents.
  • Ensure the safety of children through supervision.
  • Be regular in attendance and observe stated work hours.
  • Attend staff orientation meetings, first aid, CPR training, and any staff meetings and/or training as directed
  • Read and follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Prince of Peace Christian School Employee Handbook and Operations Manual.
  • Refer parent(s’) questions concerning specific information about children to the classroom teacher.  DO NOT discuss other children with parents.
  • If your children attend Prince of Peace Christian School, talk to his/her teacher if there is a problem, rather than with other parents.
  • During probationary period of not more than 90 days, the employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the job competently.
  • Operating hours for TA are normally 9am to 2pm unless otherwise instructed.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Active member of a Christian Church
  • 21 years of age
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Enjoy working with children
  • Previous work experience to show dependability, responsibility, and maturity
  • Ability to physically tend to students, by sitting, bending, walking with them
  • Experience working with young children in a school or similar educational setting

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit; use hands to handle or feel, to talk, and to hear
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and is required to stand and walk
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to physically tend to students, by sitting, bending, walking with them

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday; 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM (while classes are scheduled/in-session)
  • May need to attend meetings at the beginning of the school year prior to the official start of school
