| Third Grade |
In third grade the students use the reading, writing, and math skills perfected in second grade to expand their knowledge. Students read lessons from textbooks and are assessed according to their comprehension of the material. In addition to readings from a literature anthology, outside reading is required and students test their reading comprehension skills through the use of the Accelerated Reader computer program. Cursive and creative writing is practiced while learning parts of speech and paragraphing skills. Science and social studies are enriched through experiments and projects. Students keep a daily assignment book and are held responsible for doing nightly homework. In addition, the curriculum is enriched with Bible, Spanish, art, music, physical education, and computer. The maximum class size is twenty-four and the teacher is assisted by a teacher’s aide. The students wear uniforms and attend from 8:30 to 3:30 each day.
