In second grade the students perfect the reading, writing, and math skills which were introduced in first grade. With the mechanics of reading in place, students work on reading comprehension skills through guided reading exercises. Outside reading is encouraged and book reports are required. Mathematic and scientific problem solving is taught through the use of hands-on activities. The social studies curriculum explores map skills and American history. Cursive writing is introduced. In addition, the curriculum is enriched with Bible, Spanish, art, music, physical education, and computer. The maximum class size is twenty-two and the teacher is assisted by a teacher’s aide. The students wear uniforms and attend from 8:30 to 3:30 each day.
