The hope of every athlete is to do their best in the events in which they are participating. Both the Girls' and Boys' Varsity Track teams did just that at the recent State Track Meet as the girls tied for second as a team with 67 points and the boys were third with 80 points.

One of the highlights of the meet was that both the girls' and boys' 4x400m relay teams won their event.

The Girls' Varsity team of Jessica S., Alex T., Riley B., and Miranda M. set a state record for 3A with a time of  4:06.93.  They broke the old record that had been in existence for 17 years.

The Boys' Varsity team consisted of Ricky H., Connor R., Sten S.-G. and
Alexander G..

In individual events, POP had the following state champions: Jessica S. in the pole vault in which she set a new state record of 11 feet, Ricky H. in the pole vault with 13 feet and almost clearing 14 feet, and Sten S.G. in the 1600m run with a new POP record of 4:35.76.

Other POP record performances were made by Alexander G. in the 400m dash by placing 2nd with a time of 52.10 and Sam S. in the discus earning 2nd place with a throw of 149’2”.

Placing in other events were:

DEALING WITH THE LOW BLOWS OF LIFE

“Fear not for I am with you, be not dismayed.  I am your God; I will strengthen you and help you.  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  Is. 41:10

Storms will come into our lives as surely as springtime thunderstorms in Texas.  We do not always know when they will come, where they will travel, whether they will bring rain, wind or hail or how much damage will be done.  So how should we prepare for such a crisis in our life and how do we move forward once we experience the emotional and financial pain of such a blow?

First and foremost is our relationship with our God.  Please reread the words above from Isaiah 41.  Know without a doubt that God has chosen you as a member of His Family and you belong to Him.  Let daily prayer, reading and study of God’s Word strengthen that personal bond.  When mistakes plague your life, and they will, confess your faults—your sins—and accept God’s complete forgiveness.

Secondly, continue to build relationships with those around you—family, friends and co-workers. Strengthen those bonds by learning to forgive those who fail or hurt you.  Forgiveness is the power, the authority you have from God Himself—a power that you can have over anyone who wants to hurt or even destroy you.  So forgive and keep on forgiving until the past can no longer control you.

Next, remember to take time—time to hurt, time to grieve, time to evaluate and accept, time to change and time to make wise and healthy choices. Listen. Listen to God.  Know that He or His promises have not changed. He hasn’t turned His face from you or abandoned you.  If you need someone to listen to you and your feelings, I have good news for you. I know several people who have been specifically trained for such a time as this.  They are ready to develop a one-to-one ministry relationship with you and confidentially walk with you until the crisis passes. Please let me know if you or someone you know may be interested.

God has so many and wonderful gifts He wants to share with His chosen Family. I hope that you will accept His manifold gifts and find ways to share with others.

Please join me as we lift up the following students and their families in our daily prayers:

May 17---Bennett U., Brittan W., Ryan B., Morgan D. and Haley G.
May 18---Caitlin P., Michael S., Jacky L. and Jasmun M.
May 19---Rachel P., Cade S., Mallory C. and Ryan F.
May 20---Justin G., Taylor K.and Carly L.
May 21---Aly M., Elijah T. and Elyce F..

If you have any questions about Baptism, would like to have your child baptized or have other spiritual concerns, please contact me at extension 236 or e-mail curt.riske@princeofpeace.org. Have a blessed week!!
