Saturday's Auction Gala, Bonanza!, was a huge success! Thanks to the generosity of so many, we were able to raise over $200,000 this year through the online auction and the gala itself. If you missed the event, you missed a great night! Fun was had by all, as we rallied together for POPCS.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked many hours throughout the course of the year to help make the event successful. There were many volunteers, several of them staff members, who worked during the event and on setup on Saturday.
Thank you to all who donated items, underwriting funds and your time and talents. Thank you as well to all who attended the event. It was a great night for POPCS!

The Fred Family
This month, the Prince of Peace Student Council will be hosting a blood drive with Carter Blood Care on our campus. On April 27, from 1-7 p.m., students, parents and teachers alike are welcome to volunteer to give blood. This event is being held in honor and support of Todd Fred, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Any support through prayer and through blood donation will be greatly appreciated by the Fred family. Anyone age 16 or older can participate, though those under 18 will be required to have a parental consent form. Though walk-in donations are welcome, we do ask that you preregister for a timeslot during the day, so that everything will run as smoothly as possible.
Students will be able to sign up for an appointment during their lunch periods. Appointments can also be made by phone. If you would like to do this please contact Joyce Lonquist in the High School Office 447-9887 (ext. 391). The Blood Drive is an extremely exciting event that we hope to make a tradition at Prince of Peace.

Required Immunizations for 2010 - 2011 School Year |
|
| |
Dear Parents of Students in Texas Schools, Kindergarten through 12th Grades:
Immunizations are an important part of public health, and Texas law requires students in Texas
schools to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases. The Department of State
Health Services (DSHS) understands that it can be hard to find the time and money to get your
children vaccinated, and many times it is not something you are able to do until the month of
August. But we would like to stress the importance of getting these required vaccines at the
earliest possible time, to avoid the back-to-school immunization rush that occurs every year
during the month of August.
Below is a list of the required vaccines for students who will attend a Texas school in the 2010-
2011 school year. This list includes new requirements that were added to Kindergarten and 7th
grade in 2009. Parents of students who will enter Kindergarten and 7th grade should pay special
attention to the additional vaccine requirements. Please be aware that students without the
required immunizations or a valid exemption will not be allowed to attend school.
Vaccine requirements for students entering Kindergarten through 12th grade:
3 to 5 doses* of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP/DTP/DT/Td)
3 to 4 doses* of polio
2 doses* of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)
3 doses of hepatitis B
1 to 2 doses* of varicella
1 booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) 10 years after the last dose of
tetanus-diphtheria-containing vaccine
Additional vaccine requirements for students entering Kindergarten, 1st grade, 7th grade,
and 8th grade:
2 doses of hepatitis A for students entering K – 1st grade
2 doses of varicella for students entering K – 1st and 7th – 8th grade
1 booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) for students entering 7th grade,
if at least 5 years have passed since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria-containing vaccine
1 dose of meningococcal for students entering 7th – 8th grade
*To determine the specific number of doses that will be required, please check the link below to read the entire document, entitled 2010-2011 Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Texas
Students. This document and additional information about school vaccine requirements are available
on the Immunization Branch website at www.immunizetexas.com (click on the ‘School and
Childcare’ link).

HOW CAN I KNOW TRUE LOVE?
In our world today we are bombarded with all kinds of messages that want to convince us that what they have to offer is “true love”. It's not unusual or surprising if the mood of the message is material, self gratifying or sexual in nature. But I’m quite sure you would agree that’s not the kind of love that Jesus talks about.
The Bible is filled with passages that speak about Love. Today, I will try to focus on the Gospel of John to confirm some of Jesus’ words on the subject of Love.
The very first verse of this Gospel tells the wonderful message of God’s love for fallen sinners as He sends His Son, our Christmas Gift, into this world as a human so He could suffer and die for our sins. As He lives here on this earth, He is constantly demonstrating His Father’s love—teaching, helping, healing, admonishing, correcting and serving.
Just before He went to the cross for us, He shared some things about love that may surprise us. First, it is paramount that we know that God is Love and that we are to love Him more than anything. He reminds us that He has a new command—Love one another as I have loved you. Do not look down on others but serve as I have served. Yes, we are to love our enemies, those who put us down and even those who try to hurt us. He has a great desire for us to remain in His love, now and always.
We see this kind of love demonstrated in Jesus’ ministry to Peter. Following Peter’s denial, Jesus appeared to Peter on that first Easter. Peter was in the room when Jesus showed them His scarred but resurrected body and on the seashore when confronted with that familiar question, “Do you love me?” I’m sure Peter reflected on past failures as well as present desires and commitments. He really did love His Savior. He remembered His words—“if you love me you will do what I say”. So how could He practice “true love”?
The answer for Peter, for you and me is given by Jesus before He ascended into Heaven—“My Father will give you the counselor, the Spirit of truth who will live with you and in you.” The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to us available through the waters of Baptism and through His Holy Word. That’s the only way to really know “True Love.”
In addition to searching God’s Word, join me each day in prayer for the following students and their families.
April 26---Haley N., Whitney R.and Harrison O.
April 27---Alex S., Kelly S. and Grant D.
April 28---Gabriella D., Anaya L. and Addisyn L.
April 29---Katherine P., Jake R., Mariena S. and Anna-Grace S.
April 30---Colby B., Avery C.and Caleb C.
If you have any questions about Baptism, would like to have your child baptized or have other spiritual concerns, please contact me at extension 236 or e-mail curt.riske@princeofpeace.org. Have a blessed week!!

Softball and Baseball Teams' Senior Nights |
|
| |

Tuesday, April 20 was Senior Night for both softball and baseball. The Varsity Softball team hosted its final home game of the season vs CCA at Josey Ranch. The girls won the game 8-3 with solid team play. After the game, seniors Erin B. and Jessanna W. were honored. Erin is playing her first season on the softball team and Jessanna returned to play senior night after suffering a broken arm early in the season. The Lady Eagles will head into post-season play next week. The Varsity Baseball team hosted Lakehill in a district match up at McInnish Park. Before the game, seniors Royce L. and Sean S. were honored (Alex W., also a senior, was not in attendance). The baseball team is composed mostly of freshmen this year and Coach Jeff Johnson commended the seniors for their leadership of and contributions to the team this season. The team will conclude its season at Lakehill Prep on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

The Varsity Track team had a great competition at the Tom Landry Relays!! The girls ended up winning the entire meet!!! Way to Go, Girls!!!! They also broke two school records, one in the mile relay and the other in the 4x100m relay. Several had personal bests: Annee H.in the 3200, Riley B. in the 300H and Maggie G.in the triple jump!! Stephanie W.had a great 1600m run for her first "real" race since she broke her collar bone. The girls have had a great season so far. Let's keep praying they continue to run well and stay healthy.
The boys competed well, also. They placed fourth overall. There were twenty teams competing. They narrowly missed breaking the school record in the mile relay! They were awesome!!!

Campbell Fr. and Mr. Hahn Have Their Match
When Campbell F. was in 3rd grade and at a Top POP lunch with Mr Hahn they discussed the dream of playing a tennis match on tennis courts at Prince of Peace Christian School. Campbell is now in 6th grade, and he had that match. For those keeping score, 11 games were played, and Campbell won 9 of them!

Our prayer for our school and students this week is that we will have an uncommon daily walk with God.

Please join us on Wednesday mornings at 8:30 in the prayer room at the back of the sanctuary. For additional information, contact Melissa Parrott at melissa.parrott@gmail.com.
