PEACE

Last week we spent a few moments reflecting on the word “Truth” and its place in our world today.  This week I’d like to direct you to another word—“Peace”.

There are many uses of this word in the Old Testament.  It is usually used to describe a lack of conflict between individuals or groups of people.  A new and expanded meaning of the word “peace” is evident when the angels, announcing the birth of Jesus, proclaimed “Peace on Earth”.  They were definitely talking about a much deeper and more lasting peace—a peace of mind and soul made possible by the Savior.  St. Paul talks about this “peace” as one of the Fruits of the Spirit.  He reminded the people in Corinth that God had called them to live in this “peace”. I Cor. 7:15  In John, Chapter 14, Jesus tell His disciples, “My peace I leave with you. On Easter Sunday, when Christ appeared to His disciples who were behind locked doors, He greeted them, “Peace be with you”.

So what is this “peace” that Jesus is talking about?  First of all, it describes a relationship between man—you and me—and our God, established when our Savior lived, died and rose again to pay the penalty for our sins and reunite us with our God and Creator.  Secondly, “peace” is received by faith in Christ—a gift from God the Father because of the actions of Jesus.  Above all, “peace” is God’s action which surpasses all human understanding. Phil 4:7. Once again we are united with our Lord and we have His complete forgiveness and His promise, “Because I live, you too shall have a New Life.  May you be richly blessed with that very “peace”.

Please join me in prayer for the following students and their families:

April 12---Cole L., Daniel M., Kyle O. and Elle S.
April 13---Kevin S., Mya T., Lilly S. and Laura W.
April 14---Audrey B., Eric E.and Kiree G.
April 15---Morgan J., Mary La. and Ian M.-N.
April 16---Dan P. Shan S. and Max S.

Young Men's Service League (YMSL) - Carrollton Chapter

The Young Men’s Service League Carrollton Chapter did a car wash on March 28 to raise money for the American Red Cross Haiti/Chile relief funds.  They raised over $600.

A special thanks goes to Donna Newkirk, who came up with the idea and got the wheels in motion. We should be proud of our boys and proud of our chapter!

A bit more about the YMSL Carrollton Chapter...

The YMSL Carroltton Chapter supports the following philanthropies:

American Red Cross, Bea’s Kids, Carrollton Senior Adult Services, Christian Community Action, Friday Night Friends, Habitat for Humanity, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Meet the Troops, Metrocrest Social Services, Operation Kindness, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Hospital, Sunrise Senior Living, National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Special Olympics, Shoes for the Orphan Souls and Airborne Angels.

The Carrollton Chapter was started 2 years ago, primarily by Donna Newkirk, who has been President for the last two years.  They started with 24 mom/son members and are now up to almost 100 mom/son members.  There are boys from 9th grade -11th grade right now and they come from many schools including POPCS, CCA, Shelton, Greenhill and others.  The Chapter will have all 4 High School grades starting in the fall.  It’s been a great experience for everyone.  Each member must do a minimum of 20 philanthropy hours per year.  For the current year, their membership has logged in over 1,600 hours across all of the philanthropies listed above.

For Additional Information on the YMSL Carroltton Chapter, you can visit their website at: http://ymslcarrollton.org/c_default.aspx.
