Construction Update

Just when you thought the construction was done…
As many of you are now aware the City of Carrollton has begun the expansion of Midway Road.  They plan six lanes with the majority of the center median being removed. We met with the City of Carrollton project manager last week to discuss ways to minimize interruptions to you and the school traffic patterns.  We are reviewing the possibility of the closure of the left southbound turn lane, in hopes of having it opened for morning and afternoon carpool. We have been told to expect (depending on weather) that this project may take up to 9 months.

Thank you for the flexibility, adaptability, and patience which you have all demonstrated over the past two years during the construction of the Early Learning Center, Fine Arts Center and the Athletic Fields.  Once again, we will need to call on those resources while this project takes place, and in the end, it will be beneficial to all of us.

THE HARDEST IDOL TO DESTROY

Do you recognize the false idols in your life?  Each of us probably has our own collection—some seen by others but most of them securely hidden.  Please consider with me that the most dangerous and usually the most difficult to destroy or eliminate idol in our life may be “guilt”.

Guilt may indeed be our idol, especially if we daily focus on our guilt and we cling to it in our heart and in our memory.  Each day we find ourselves thinking about and reliving past events where we have fallen short or even failed completely.  We actually hope that by focusing on our mistakes, we may somehow convert them into positive experiences.  But we soon discover that this doesn’t work.  Instead of relieving our stresses, it only makes our guilt greater.  It is indeed a very difficult task to let go of the past.  The devil and our sinful flesh want our past failures to become that idol that we must always carry with us.  We hear our own inner voice—“You can’t love me, God, because I’ve been so bad”; “You can’t accept me because I daily find ways to reject you”, or “There are people in my life that I have failed to love and forgive and therefore I am beyond your forgiveness”.  Guilt is stubborn and demanding and controls our life.

But Scripture, through the power of the Holy Spirit, reminds us that no matter what horrible thoughts or situations come our way, no matter what crosses we are asked to carry, no matter the depth of darkness that surrounds us, no matter the extent of the accusations against us, we continue to be in the Love of God.  Because of Jesus, nothing in all of creation can separate us from the love that is ours through faith in our Savior.  Jesus did everything for us that we could not do for ourselves, including overcoming the devil and all the forces of evil.  Because He attained the victory—including the removal of guilt from our lives—we too, in and with His power, can cast off guilt and celebrate the freedom of His Love and Forgiveness every day!!

Please join me in lifting up the following students and their families in our daily prayers:

March 22—Colin K., Emma M. and Case H.
March 23---Andrew P., Emma R. and Nicholas S.
March 24---Rebekah T., Ryliue V.and Madison Z.
March 25---Zachary H., Grant R. and Walker C.
March 26---Hudson H., Isabella P. and Sarah S.

If you have any questions about Baptism, would like to have your child baptized or have other spiritual concerns, please contact me at extension 236 or e-mail curt.riske@princeofpeace.org. Have a blessed week!!

Middle School Mission Trip to Costa Rica

During the Middle School Spanish Class trip, our POPCS students were able to help a needy school in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, by providing gently used clothing and new school supplies. This was a big help to the families of the children who could not afford such items and were unable to start school with the rest of the children.  The visit had a great impact on the POPCS  students who experienced in person how important their help was in providing the Costa Rican students with essential supplies which we take for granted.  Our students also shared the Gospel to the students and their parents by giving out salvation tracts which were written in Spanish and illustrated.  The children and their families from the Santa Rita school were very grateful for all that we did.

Students Attending Trip:

Collin M.
Karlie G.

Lauren B.
Class of 2008

Lauren was named to the Dean’s List and Chancellor’s List at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville last semester.  She had a 4.0 GPA in the honor’s program in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.  She is a sophomore at U of A.  She goes to school, tuition free, as a Silas Hunt Distinguished Scholar, served as a mentor last semester to new Silas Hunt Scholars and is currently tutoring athletes.  Just last night she told me that she is so glad that we moved her to POPCS from public school in the 6th grade, because her confidence soared at POP.  She said that other kids in high school complimented her on her academic abilities and made her feel, for the first time in her life, that she could excel in academics.  She is majoring in Psychology and plans to go to graduate school and pursue a master’s in marriage and family counseling.  She is in her second semester of Italian and hopes to earn scholarships to study abroad in 2011 in Italy.

Moms In Touch International

Our prayer for our school and students this week is that we will learn to yield ourselves to God daily and follow His leading in our lives.

Romans 6:12, 13 - Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.  Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness.”
